2025 Interior Design Trends to Incorporate for Timeless Design
Let’s discuss the top interior design tips for 2025 and how you can incorporate them in a timeless way!
You’ve probably noticed a lot of talk about the expected trends for 2025 but I’m here to help you create a timeless look in your home inspired by these trends.
1. Vintage - Antique or vintage pieces of furniture, art, and accessories are conversation starters and add interesting layers to your home.
The key is to avoid ALL antiques or vintage pieces in a room, instead aiming for a mix of new and old to create character. For example, a new upholstered bed and an antique dresser in your bedroom, or reupholster or slipcover your grandmother’s wingback chairs in a performance fabric in your living room.
Shop your mother's attic, aunt's spare bedroom, scope out estate sales, or search on FB marketplace for these key pieces. I love picking up vintage art from estate sales.

2. Preppy Patterns - Think plaid for a Ralph Lauren for a home office, a subtly striped wallpaper for a guest bedroom, or gingham throw pillows for that Nancy Myers feel.
Let go of the thinking that plaid is just for school uniforms and Christmas time. Opt for a low contrast wallpaper, like this Phillip Jeffries Preppy Plaid, or this lumbar pillow available at Target. These adorable swissdot curtains for a little girl or boy's bedroom will add depth and color and will always be in style. If you’re looking for versatile bedding for your guest bedroom, seersucker or ticking stripe are great options!
I like to add a little bit of plaid or stripes in almost every design to bring in those timeless elements. There’s a reason preppy style is enduring.
3. Embrace the Brown - Cinnamon Slate (BM), Mocha Mousse (Pantone), and Grounded (SW) are going to be very popular choices for interiors. Not ready to color drench your bedroom in a shade of brown? Me either! Although, I was very tempted when I saw one in person - it was soooo cozy!
The good news is there are so many other ways to incorporate the color of the year into your home! For example, you can bring in furniture in a darker wood tone. If you have a small entryway, incorporate this dresser with a marble top as a landing zone with storage.
This brown marble lamp from Visual Comfort would warm up a bedroom scape or add depth to an office desk.
And even though I’m years away from redoing our primary bathroom, I’ve been eyeing up darker wood vanities for a classic and sophisticated vibe. Check out this painted brown double vanity from Stoffer Home.

4. Modern Artisans - This trend is all about celebrating the artistry behind the objects we bring into our spaces. Think hand-carved furniture, custom-made lighting, and woven textiles that tell a story. The focus is on supporting local makers and embracing pieces with a human touch—flaws and all.
Shop your local farmers market, small business in your town who will often source from local vendors, or Etsy also has many great options.
This doesn’t have to just apply to decorative pieces or accessories. On a recent design consultation, the clients and I struggled to find a kitchen table that met all the requirements needed for the space. Thankfully, they knew of a local table builder who does amazing work and are now having a custom table made to fit their space perfectly!

5. Intentional and Romanticized Spaces - I don't think it's just the beginning of the new year that has people longing to be more intentional in their daily lives. It seems more than ever that people are looking for ways to slow down when they're home and find the magic in the mundane. If you're looking to make small changes in your home this year, focus on one room where you and your family spend the most time or where you entertain. Think about how you use that room or space every day, what are your favorite activities within that room, and how can you make it more comfortable?
The first and easiest way to enhance the space is to add more lighting. Here are three ways to add lighting:
Task light - Add a wall sconce over a sofa where you often read or wind down at night with some needlepoint. There are a lot of great options for plug-in or even rechargeable lights if hardwiring a wall sconce is not an option.
Accent lighting - Shop vintage for a table lamp or buy a tall floor lamp for a dark and unused corner and put them on a timer to add ambient lighting even when the room isn’t in use. Just remember to have an outdated lamp rewired by a professional if there’s any doubt regarding safety.
Decorative lighting - Emphasize your favorite painting by adding a picture light above it or install rope lighting in a cabinet or on top of built-ins to bring attention to collectables or books.
